GLOSSARY

Penina or Champagne?
Penina is a Slovenian word for sparkling wine, while the term Champagne denotes exclusively sparkling wines produced in the French region Champagne.

Sparkling Wine Production Methods
  • Traditional method (also known as méthode champenoise): the secondary fermentation that transforms the base wine into sparkling wine takes place in bottles.
  • Tank method (also known as the Charmat method): the secondary fermentation takes place in large tanks; only the finished sparkling wine is bottled.
All Bjana sparkling wines are made using the traditional method.
